Acceleration has many uses of literary devices.

It uses metaphors in order to describe the world duncan lives in.
"Spending eight hours a day in this dungeon."

It has imagery used to give the book a realistic setting.
"Vin's flattening out a map of the city on the table, pushing the napkin dispenser out of the way."

It uses humor the characters make in order to lighten the mood in some parts of the book.
"A shrug. "Minimum wage, minimum effort.""

It uses descriptions to really get a view of the nature of were the story is taking place.
"Air conditioners are as rare as collage diplomas in the Jungle."

It uses similes in order to show how hard he is working to hind roach.
"I've got to go back to the diary and study it like a Bible, find where he slips up and gives himself away."

It uses foreshadowing in order to make future happenings more realistic.
"I tell him how I saw Roach leave forty minuets ago.  There's no way to know how much time we have."
